Our history:
the origins, the past and the future
100 years of fire!

The solidity of a company comes from its roots.

After the end of the war, Martarello’s founder, the Knight of Labor Giovanni, returned home from the area of Parma (where he worked in an ammunitions factory) and devoted himself to the activity that fascinated him since he was 14 years old: the handcrafted production of fireworks.

In 1921 he established his company in Arquà Polesine, a small town in the province of Rovigo (in the north of Italy).
His son Coriolano, a music lover and a musician, followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1949 he married the woman who became known as “la Maria dei Foghi” (Mary of the fires).

Maria was Ermes’ mother, the man who has led the internationally renowned company during the last ten years. When her husband died, this brave woman continued to manage the company.
The locals remember her when she arrived in the towns’ centres with her car loaded with fireworks and her five children always with her.
Large companies are the result of small stories of individual’s courage and tenacity. They grow strong when the times are good and stand by their country when the times are less favourable. They grow with people and they provide them an example of strength and optimism.
Their local surroundings make them stronger and in turn they enrich them.

Since 2019 Michele, Ermes’ son, is the new President of the historic family business. He was the person in charge of the Shows and Events Office for several years. He is a young businessman, a multi-award-winning pyrotechnician, and a company technician. Michele’s main purpose is to carry on the work begun by his father and grandparents.
